The pricing mistake that quietly eats roofing profit

Most small roofing companies add a markup to their cost and call it profit. But markup and margin are not the same number, and overhead comes out of whatever is left.

Questions

Does it work in Google Sheets?

Yes. Upload the .xlsx to Google Drive and open it with Google Sheets, or use File > Import. Every formula works in both Excel and Google Sheets.

Is this software or a subscription?

Neither. It is a one-time download you own. No logins, no monthly fee, no app to learn.

Are the prices in the sheet real market prices?

No. The sheet ships with example numbers so you can see how it works. You enter your own supplier prices, labor costs, overhead and target margin, because those are different for every roofer and every region.

What is the difference between markup and margin?

Markup is profit as a percentage of cost. Margin is profit as a percentage of the sale price. A 20% markup is only a 16.7% margin, and that is before overhead. The pack prices from your break-even using margin math, so the profit you plan is the profit you keep.

Will my customer see my costs?

No. The Customer Quote tab shows your company info, the scope of work and the total price only. Your costs stay on the Estimate tab.

What if it is not right for me?

Email us within 14 days of purchase and we will refund you. No hoops.

Who made this?

Contractor Profit Tools is made by Gravity Content Agency, a small marketing agency in Butte County, California that builds websites and runs local marketing for contractors. We kept seeing the same thing: good roofers winning bids and still not making money, because the pricing math was off. This pack is the spreadsheet we wish every one of them had.
